Martina Vieli new member of the Board of Directors of gfs.bern

14.02.2024 | Lukas Golder, GFS Bern

The Board of Directors of gfs.bern is being renewed as part of the finalised company succession. Claude Longchamp, who founded the Institute for Policy and Communication Research in 2004 and has shaped it ever since, is leaving the Board of Directors on 31 March 2024 for a well-deserved retirement. Martina Vieli, an experienced political and communications consultant, former lobbyist and member of the extended management of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation SRG SSR, has been newly elected to the Board of Directors.

Claude Longchamp was a pioneer of applied political research in Switzerland for over 40 years. With the disposition approach, he developed a highly regarded analysis grid for opinion-forming processes in votes, which is still a central analysis tool in gfs.bern’s toolbox today.  In 2016, he sold his company to his successors and current co-heads Urs Bieri and Lukas Golder. Claude Longchamp’s departure marks the final step in the successful company succession.

The “man with the bow tie”, with his profound knowledge of Swiss history and Swiss politics, remains in demand and present as an expert in the public eye. Today, however, he usually appears without his bow tie.

"After an intensive handover process from Claude Longchamp to his successors, respect and fascination for the pioneer of applied political research remain unchanged at gfs.bern. As a bookworm with an elephantine memory, he packs his wealth of knowledge into analyses and stories that inspire and thrill us all. We would like to thank him very much for his tireless commitment to gfs.bern and Swiss politics."
Lukas Golder, Chairman of the Board of Directors of gfs.bern
